Tips From an Enmar Hardwood Flooring Customer

Tips From an Enmar Hardwood Flooring Customer

In hopes to help those seeking guidance in their hardwood flooring journey, we asked a recent customer a series of questions. Thank you to Stephanie H. for sharing! enmar flooring stephanie h

What led you to choose hardwood flooring for your home?

Stephanie: Both my husband and I grew up in houses with hardwood floors, so we liked the idea of hardwood over carpet or tile. We got to a point where we disliked our carpet so much (even after thorough cleanings) that we caved in and decided we wanted one type of flooring to unify our whole first floor.

What led you to go with Enmar?

Stephanie: We were initially referred to Enmar by a family friend who knew the original owner (also named Brian I believe.) So we used Enmar to install hardwood in our first house …but then we moved out shortly after into a bigger home since we were starting a family. Three years later I was on the hunt to replace the flooring in our new house and obviously decided to include Enmar during my hunt for reasonable quotes.

What tips do you have for people interested in wood flooring?

Stephanie:

1. Take the time to bring home as many samples as your heart desires and keep them to see them on your floors during all different times of the day.

2. You don’t always have to go crazy expensive on the floor to get one that will last 20+ years…you just have to know that you have to take care of your investment.

3. The higher the sheen on the wood, the more obvious spots, scratches, and stains are…so if you want something a bit more manageable, pick a wood with a matte sheen.

4. If you plan on being able to sell your house, don’t spend money on a hardwood floor that is too customized or trendy…classic hardwood helped us sell our first house in 1 day and has us getting offers on our current house, even though it is not even for sale!

5. We did NOT install the hardwood in our kitchen or laundry room and, in hindsight, that was the best decision ever for a household with two kids.

6. Opt for new baseboards. Removing and replacing old baseboards do not look good against new wood flooring.

What is your favorite thing about your new wood floor?

Stephanie: I love how having one type of floor really makes our first floor look bigger. We get compliments all the time about how we managed to put amazing character into a track home (we also installed stone on a few interior walls before we had the wood put in). The whole house seems warm with hardwood flooring; not as cold and sterile as tile can be.

Engineered Hardwood Vs. Laminate

Engineered Hardwood Vs. Laminate

What is engineered wood? How is it different than laminate?

We have many people who come into our store and are uncertain what the differences are between engineered hardwood flooring and laminate flooring. Let’s face it, if you are choosing to put new floors into your home, it is a huge investment and you want to ensure you have all the facts to assist you in making an educated decision.

There is a misconception that engineered hardwood flooring is not “real wood”. Engineered hardwood is real hardwood that has been bonded to a substructure, normally a type of plywood. Engineered hardwood flooring is more stable during changes in humidity.

The top layer or “wear layer” of engineered flooring can vary anywhere from below 2mm of thickness to very substantial 6mm thickness. When it comes to refinishing hardwood floors, depending on the thickness of the wear layer, engineered flooring can also be sanded and refinished if there is damage to the floor.

Laminate flooring is a multi layer synthetic product that “simulates” the look of hardwood by using a photographic image under a clear protective layer. The inner core of laminate is normally a resin and fiberboard. Laminate flooring cannot be sanded in any way if repairs are required so you would have to replace the board. Laminate has been described as sounding hollow under foot, you will not get that with engineered hardwood flooring that is glued to your concrete slab.

Some feel there is more maintenance to real hardwood than laminate. This is not true as all that is required is a lint free dry mop for quick daily cleaning and a damp mop for a deeper clean. This a also applicable to laminate as well.

Is Engineered Hardwood Flooring “REAL” Hardwood?

Let’s talk a little bit about Engineered Hardwood

We have a lot of people who come to our ENMAR Hardwood Flooring Gilbert store wanting to buy hardwood flooring who have the misconception that engineered flooring is not real hardwood.

Let’s set the record straight on this: engineered hardwood flooring is real hardwood!!

Engineered flooring is real hardwood that has been bonded onto a substructure, normally a type of plywood. The plywood allows for greater structural integrity in your floor, and our engineered Gilbert hardwood flooring is more stable during changes in humidity.

When shopping for Phoenix hardwood flooring in today’s market, a large portion of what you are seeing is engineered flooring; this Phoenix hardwood flooring can be used on all levels in your home. Most homes here in Arizona are built on concrete slabs and the engineered flooring can be laid directly onto the concrete slab so long as there is an appropriate vapor barrier utilized.

Some people are of the belief that they have to purchase “solid hardwood” to get real hardwood; this is a popular misconception.

Solid hardwood is milled normally from a piece of timber to ¾” thick and cannot be put directly on a concrete slab. If solid flooring is your choice, our ENMAR Hardwood Flooring Gilbert installers would first have to create a sub-floor that the solid wood could then be installed on top of.

The top layer or “wear layer” of engineered flooring can vary anywhere from below 2mm of thickness to very substantial 6mm thickness. When it comes to repairing Phoenix hardwood floors, depending on the thickness of the wear layer, engineered flooring can also be sanded and refinished if there is damage to the floor.
